Answered [Hūd]: "Behold, I call God to witness – and you, too, be [my] witnesses – that, verily, it is not in me to ascribe divinity, as you do, to aught

* Or: “that, verily, I am guiltless of your ascribing a share in [God’s] divinity (mimmā tushrikūn)...,” etc. – thus rejecting the sardonic suggestion of his compatriots that one of their imaginary deities might have stricken him with madness.
